Hi there!

IBC 2016

My name is Charles Wren, I have several years of commercial experience as an editor, camera operator, and also a VFX artist/supervisor. My skill sets allow me to be both creative and technical, without sacrificing one for the other.

my biggest passion in life is storytelling…

It’s what makes me tick. I truly love telling people’s stories through the lens of a camera.

I’m also a huge tech geek, and have an undying love for gadgets and technology. So I can often be found experimenting with new techniques and pieces of equipment.

I take a tremendous amount of pride in everything that I work on. If a story is worth telling, then it’s worth telling right.

The technicalities…

I’m a big believer in letting the software get out of the way, and focusing on the craft of telling a story, rather than worrying too much about the technicalities. With that said though, I’m also very passionate about doing things “right”. Taking shortcuts, in almost every walk of life that I care to think of, will often only save time in the short term, and cost more of it in the long term. This is especially true when it comes to filmmaking.

On a technical level, I have a vast range of software knowledge. My primary applications include, but are not limited to, Final Cut Pro X, Nuke, PFTrack, Mocha, Resolve, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator to name but a few.

Visual Effects (VFX)

On the visual effects side of things, I am a competent matchmover/camera tracker. I use PFTrack as my tracker of choice. I composite mainly in The Foundry’s node based application – Nuke, inside which I take care of everything from tracking, roto and paint, to colour matching, multipass compositing and colour grading/look development.

The majority of my visual effects career has taken place at Affixius Films. This has given me the opportunity to supervise and advise on VFX shoots, and to take charge of, and often create from scratch, entire VFX workflows for the projects to be built upon.
